This Privacy Policy explains what personal data linkchart processes when you visit linkchart.art, create an account, or use our visual link analysis platform to build investigation maps. We designed linkchart for professional investigation workflows; you remain responsible for lawful collection and handling of case-related information you place on your maps.
1. Introduction
linkchart provides a web-based intelligence mapping service: interactive link charts where people, vehicles, places and communications connect on a shared canvas. This policy applies to the marketing website, the application at app.html, APIs, and related support channels.
By using linkchart you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. Our Terms of Service govern your use of the platform alongside this policy.
2. Who we are
The data controller for linkchart is the operator of linkchart.art (“we”, “us”, “linkchart”). For privacy enquiries, data subject requests, or security reports contact hi@linkchart.art.
3. Data we collect
Depending on how you use linkchart, we may process:
- Account data — name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and account identifiers.
- Session data — authentication tokens stored in cookies or local storage so you stay signed in.
- Map and canvas data — entities, relationships, labels, positions, notes and images you save to your investigation maps.
- Collaboration data — invitations, shared access roles, and activity needed to co-edit maps where enabled.
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, device information, timestamps, and server logs for security and reliability.
- Communications — messages you send to support at hi@linkchart.art.
We do not intentionally collect special categories of personal data through the service. You must not upload unlawfully obtained or unnecessary sensitive personal data to linkchart.
4. How we use data
We use personal data to:
- Provide, maintain and improve the linkchart platform and network analysis features.
- Authenticate users, secure accounts, and prevent abuse or fraud.
- Store and sync your maps across devices and collaboration sessions.
- Respond to support requests and communicate about the service.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Analyse aggregated, non-identifying usage to improve performance and UX.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
5. Legal basis (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we rely on:
- Contract — processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — security, fraud prevention, service improvement, and proportionate analytics.
- Consent — where required for optional cookies or marketing (if offered).
- Legal obligation — when law requires retention or disclosure.
6. Investigation maps & your responsibilities
linkchart processes map content on your instructions as part of delivering the service. We do not use your case maps to train public models or sell investigation intelligence. Restrict access via collaboration settings and protect account credentials.
7. Sharing with third parties
We may share data with:
- Infrastructure providers — hosting, database, backup and email delivery under contractual safeguards.
- Collaborators you invite — other users you explicitly grant access to a map.
- Authorities — when required by valid legal process or to protect rights, safety and security.
All processors are required to handle data only on our instructions and with appropriate security measures.
8. Security
We use technical and organisational measures including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, hashed passwords, and server-side session management. No online service is completely secure; report vulnerabilities to hi@linkchart.art with subject “Security”.
9. Retention
Account and map data are kept while your account is active. After deletion or closure, we remove or anonymise data within a reasonable period unless law requires longer retention (e.g. security logs). Backups may persist for a limited time before rotation.
10. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability for information you provided.
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Submit requests to hi@linkchart.art. We may verify your identity before responding.
11. Cookies & similar technologies
We use essential cookies (such as session identifiers) to keep you signed in and secure the application. The marketing site may use minimal technical cookies for basic operation. We do not use third-party advertising trackers on the core product. You can control cookies through browser settings; disabling essential cookies may prevent login.
12. International transfers
Data may be processed in countries other than your own where our infrastructure providers operate. When required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for transfers from the EEA/UK.
13. Children
linkchart is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Contact us if you believe a minor has provided personal data.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Material changes may be notified via email or in-app notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
